Maymont Park in Richmond

Maymont Park has been one of my favorite spots to explore in Richmond since I was young. As a child, I was simply obsessed with the otters at The Robins Nature Center and the cute goats at the farm area! Now, I find it so peaceful to wander around the gardens, especially in the spring when we went for Tomi and Evan’s engagement session. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and it was so beautiful!

After a week that had been mostly dreary, Tomi and Evan had the most beautiful spring weather when we met up for their engagement photos at Maymont Park. Being a Saturday, it was very busy but we managed to make our way around and avoid other park visitors and still create magic for their photos! We began wandering around the Italian Gardens. The stonework in this area is absolutely gorgeous and the greenery provided the perfect backdrop but the beauty of the pergola and column-lined walkway absolutely stole my heart. 

Funny moment: During the part of the engagement photos where they were walking hand-in-hand down the pathway, I absolutely fell trying to walk backwards and capture them… So be careful of the steps there if you’re clumsy like me!

We definitely spent the most amount of time at the cherry blossom trees at Maymont. I couldn’t believe we got so lucky for them to be in perfect bloom in early March for their engagement photos! I can’t get over how the light looked filtering through the pink petals. Even more surprising was that we managed to avoid getting any other people in the photos – I think at one point I counted 3 other parties using the same tree for prom photos and family photos!
